LEICESTER, Mass. - David Deschenes scored six goals and Jon Nessen added four to propel Becker College to a 20-9 victory over Lyndon in the opening game of the Hornets' 2011 season.
Jeff Petersen and John DeAngelis chipped in three goals each for the Hawks and John Bourque had two. Joe Ignagni and Miles Rutkowski rounded out the scorinf for the winners with one goal apiece. Petersen collected five assists on the afternoon, Ignagni had three and the trio of Bourque, DeAngelis and Deschenes had one each.
Chris Mansour (Mansfield, Mass.) had three goals to lead Lyndon while teammates Max Ercole (St. Johnsbury, Vt.) and Dan Randall (Delmar, N.Y.) tallied two each. Rick Velez (Barre, Vt.) and Luke Haskell (Ellsworth, Maine) had one goal each for the Hornets. Ercole, Mansour and Randal had one assists each in the loss, as did Colin Blanchard (Williamstown, Vt.) and Jimmy Gaskell (Washington, N.H.).
Becker goalkeeper Michael Monuz made five saves to earn the victory and Hornets' netminder Matt Reynolds (New Fairfield, Conn.) had 13 save in hid first collegiate lacrosse contest. The Hawks outshot Lyndon by a margin of 52-26 and won the battle for ground balls and faceoffs by counts of 47-24 and 18-15, respectively.
