MIDDLEBURY, VT - National power Middlebury College cruised to another one of their many Vermont State Women's Cross Country Titles behind a dominating performance and score of 21 points. The Lyndon State College Hornets managed to nab 5th place as a team (9 teams in total). Lyndon was led by senior Sierra Hargrave (St. Johnsbury, VT) who placed 15th and covered the 5K course in a personal record of 21:24. Hargrave earned All-State honors with her top 15 finish. Hargrave was followed by freshman Ashley Darrell (Concord, VT) in personal best of 22:59. Alesha Donovan (Northwood, NH) and Rachel Valentine (Clarksdale, AZ) took third and fourth for the Hornets in 23:14 and 23:23 respectively, while Isabelle Tuggle rounded out the scoring with a PR of 25:52 for the 5K distance.
"The women ran quite well today", stated Hornet Coach Chris Ummer. "Although we were missing some of our stronger runners, others stepped up and performed well. Any day you have three PRs (personal bests, Hargrave, Darrell, and Tuggle) it's always a good day. Sierra earning All-State honors was icing on the cake."
The Hornets race next on October 14th at the Western New England University Invitational in Springfield, MA. The women's race is set to start at 10:30 am.
