LYNDON CENTER, Vt. - The Lyndon State College tennis team defeated Becker College 5-4 at LSC's Dudley Bell Tennis Center.
John Kennedy (Londonderry, N.H.) and Brad Darby (Sanford, Maine) teamed up for an 8-3 victory over Charles Heard and Snjezan Telebak in No. 1 doubles. Becker's Matt Clewer and Tim Howard followed with an 8-3 win over Chris Hammett (Brunswick, Maine) and Ryan Maroney (St. Johnsbury, Vt.) at No. 2 doubles and in the No. 3 doubles match, Lyndon's Paul Thibault (Westfield, Mass.) and Jimmy Gaskell (Washington, N.H.) knocked off Peter Rota and Ralph Naval 9-7.
In singles action, Kennedy beat Heard at the top spot 7-5, 6-3 while Darby got past Telebak in No. 2 singles, 7-5, 6-1. Clewer outlasted Peter Dutile, 2-6, 6-1, 7-5 at No. 3 singles and in No. 4 singles, Howard picked up a 6-3, 7-5 win over Maroney. The Hawks' Jake Gilbert upended Thibault in the fifth singles match, 6-3, 6-1 before Jeremiah Powell (Concord, Vt.) sealed the match victory for Lyndon State with a 4-6, 6-0, 7-6 win over Rota at No. 6 singles.
