JOHNSON, Vt. - The Lyndon State College men's tennis team jumped out to a 3-0 lead after doubles play, and coasted to a 7-2 North Atlantic Conference victory over Johnson State College.
In singles action, Johnson's Ryan Joy picked up a 6-2, 6-2 victory over Lyndon's John Kennedy (Londonderry, N.H.) in the No.1 matchup before Brad Darby (Sanford, Maine) blanked the Badgers' Ben Algar 6-0, 6-0 in No. 2 singles. Peter Dutile (Greene, Maine) and Chris Hammet (Brunswick, Maine) both earned wins for LSC in the No. 3 and No. 4 matches with victories over Alen Turan (6-4, 4-6, 12-10) and Kyle Young (6-1, 7-5), respectively.
The Hornets' Paul Thibault (Westfield, Mass.) won in straight sets - 6-1, 6-1 - over JSC's Peter LeBlanc, while teammate Jeremiah Powell (Concord, Vt.) fell 6-1, 6-2 to James Dempsey.
In doubles action, the No. 1 team of Kennedy and Dutile beat Joy and Young 8-3, while Darby and Hammet claimed a win in No.2 doubles by a score of 8-4 over Algar and Turan. In the No. 3 doubles match, the tandem of Thibault and Ryan Maroney (St. Johnsbury, Vt.) topped Dempsey and Jon Willson 8-3.
