Woburn, MA - The Northern Vermont University-Lyndon women's tennis season came to an end with a loss in the North Atlantic Conference semi-finals on Sunday. The fourth seeded Hornets fell to op-seeded Husson University 5-0 in a match played to decision. The Eagles improve to 9-1 on the season and advance to the championship match against #2 Lesley University, a 5-1 winner over Massachusetts College of Liberal Arts in the other semi-final.
Husson jumped out to a quick 3-0 lead at the conclusion of doubles play. Eagles #2 doubles pair Ashley Matlock and Nicci Munroe defeated Oo Mai Be (Winooski, VT) and Erica Hayakawa (Fukuoka, Japan), 8-0. No. 3 doubles partners Marisa Brown and Jocelyn Bell defeated Ro Ze Yar (Winooski, VT) and Hailey Demers (Lyndon, VT), 8-0. The #1 doubles pair Hannah Malinen and Natalie Tilton defeated the Hornets' top pair, Emilie Dube (Bristol, CT) and Savannah Jackson (Barre, VT), 8-1, to take a big lead into the singles portion of the match.
The first singles match to conclude was at the #6 position, where Bell defeated Demers, 6-0, 6-0.
Matlock then clinched the semifinal win for the Eagles with a 6-1, 6-0 win against Dube.
Hayakawa was named to the All-Tournament Team.
The Hornets conclude their season at 3-9 following their second consecutive semi-final appearance.
